Let’s talk about the difference between physical activity and exercise – a common confusion for most people. According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), physical activity is defined as “any bodily movement that is produced by the contraction of skeletal muscle and that substantially increases energy expenditure.” This simply means getting up and moving around – doing household chores, raking leaves or walking the dog – is physical activity.

Exercise, on the other hand, is defined as “a subclass of physical activity, planned, structured, and repetitive bodily movement done to improve or maintain one or more components of physical fitness,” such as taking a 20-40 minute walk or going to the gym.
It’s completely human to have phases where we go back to the way we were by eating unhealthy meals more often than not, or skipping the gym to watch just a little more TV.

Don’t beat yourself up for it - but you have to bring yourself back to reality and regain focus on your life. Unless you want to go back to eating unhealthy for the rest of your life, then start reorganizing your thoughts and goals.
Why You Need a Vacation

by Michelle Sutton-Kerchner
Debating that vacation day or getaway week? You can’t afford to skip it …
Although often considered a luxury, vacation time is important for
overall health and well-being. Research shows long-term benefits of a
vacation. Time off can help ease physical complaints, improve sleep
quality, and enhance mood compared to a pre-vacation state. These perks
can still be in effect up to five weeks later.

Statistics indicate the majority take less than one vacation every
two years, or not at all. Income, demanding jobs, and overloaded
schedules are top reasons for avoiding designated downtime. We live in a
society that somewhat admires the overworked, and is awed by the
overextended. Affirming your degree of stress is akin to children
bragging about whom has a later bedtime. I’m stressed! I’m tired! I’m
busy! In other words: I’m not lazy. I’m important.

Be important. Be busy. But be healthy...
30 Things to Start Doing for Yourself

Remember today, for it is the beginning.
Today marks the start of a brave new future.

Our previous article, 30 Things to Stop Doing to Yourself,
was well received by most of our readers, but several of you suggested
that we follow it up with a list of things to start doing. In one
reader’s words, “I would love to see you revisit each of these 30
principles, but instead of presenting us with a ‘to-don’t’ list, present
us with a ‘to-do’ list that we all can start working on today,
together.” Some folks, such as readers Danny Head and Satori Agape,
actually took it one step further and emailed us their own revised
‘to-do’ versions of the list.

So I sat down last night with our original article and the two
reader’s revisions as a guide, and a couple hours later finalized a new
list of 30 things; which ended up being, I think, a perfect complement
to the original.

Here it is, a positive ‘to-do’ list for the upcoming year: 30 things to start doing for yourself...Core Fitness Solutionhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13761159265992997699noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1557132409396761463.post-34754402904336534232013-01-30T12:13:00.001-08:002014-12-18T13:12:12.399-08:0010 Steps To Help You Avoid Losing The Thrill

If
you're starting a new exercise program, you're probably very excited
about it, which is great. But that excitement is going to wear off,
at which point you'll begin to notice how much time and effort a
workout plan really requires....

What's your excuse for not making it to the gym on a consistent basis? Locker room too smelly? Eye candy not sweet enough? Music volume making your ears bleed? Feeling intimidated by buff bodies crowding the free-weight area?

Most people start off strong with an exercise program, and then within a few weeks they've got an excuse for not being there. The majority of people will stop participating in a new workout program within the first 90 days which is why health clubs that are packed in January can seem virtually empty by March.

Don't become a statistic - read our 10 steps to help you avoid losing the thrill.
wrong with this, in theory, but let’s not forget that it does no good to lose a

You can't take much more. It's a quarter to three on a Monday that's already involved you spilling hot coffee on your lap, running late for work, and a guilt trip from your mother about not coming home for the holidays. You need a quick pick-me-up to turn your mood around. What would really do the trick is a stop at the drive thru for a milkshake or a fresh order of hot fries. OK, maybe even the month-old bag of probably-stale pretzels that's buried at the bottom of your desk drawer.
Stressing out can cause people to gain weight, according to a study appearing in the July 15th issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology.
All three disciplines of triathlon require core stabilization and strength.

Strong core musculature allows you as an athlete to keep your body streamline in the water, maintain a comfortable bike position and complete an efficient run. Core strength will also assist with generating, absorbing and stabilizing forces which occur during your bike and run. Moreover, increasing your core strength will decrease your risk for an overuse injury, such as low-back pain and IT band syndrome. Your core is your foundation, and without it, your form will collapse and suffer. If your form collapses, your chance for injury increases.

Unfortunately, most athletes avoid or limit core exercises during their performance training.
you’ve finally got a good fitness routine going, and injury strikes
just when you’re enjoying it, it can not only be an awful feeling but
can also put a severe dent in all your best laid plans.

Whether you
enjoy your workouts, or whether you workout just to stay in shape,
injury time is hard on everyone and bouncing out of it without losing
your gusto is quite a challenge.
The holiday season is quickly approaching, which means our focus is more on spending time with family and possibly less time at the gym. It’s a great time to change up (add to) your fitness routine.

The New England Journal of Medicine reports that on average, Americans
gain between 7-10 pounds from Thanksgiving thru New Year's Eve.
They continue to trudge away on the treadmill or elliptical at a long, slow, slightly uncomfortable pace and then wonder why they aren’t getting the results they want.

When we do cardio, we want to shed fat, but we don't want to lose muscle tissue in the process. Click here to read the complete article...Core Fitness Solutionhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13761159265992997699noreply@blogger.com0
